Artificial Putting Green at
Col. Robert L. Howard State Veteran’s Home Ready for Ribbon Cutting
The AGCSA is pleased to announce the completion of the Wayne Kendrick Artificial Putting Green at the Col. Robert L. Howard State Veteran’s Home in Pell City. Mr. Kendrick, a resident there, was the driving force initiating our service project. Thank you to all our donors who made this effort possible. This has truly been a partnership between veterans groups in our state and groups within the green industry. We would like to recognize Ms. Hiliary Hardwick, Director of the Col. Robert L. Howard State Veterans Home for her help and cooperation in making this possible. See page 20 for a complete list of donors.
A special thanks also goes to Ken Healy, Ideal Synthetic Surfaces, for his donation and efforts in building the green. Ken is a long time GCSAA member and has 20 plus years as a superintendent. Ken started Ideal Synthetic Surfaces in 2006. Since then he has completed synthetic turf installations throughout the southeast including building a putting green for golf great, Bernhard Langer. Although every install is special to him none have been more special than building this green for our veterans. Ken says, “The smile on their faces when they found out what we were doing is priceless and all the payment needed.”
Our Board members, Lee Fillingim and Neal Wisdom also donated their time to make this project happen! Thank you!
With better weather we hope to see much usage of the green. Our “ribbon cutting” ceremony is scheduled for February 18th. Members are invited!
